Genre & Style
Directory listings are general. So, what are we really looking for? Overall, a general description would be Popular music however, this encompasses MANY styles. So, we have made an attempt to break this down for you here. Once again, please understand, we do not sit in judgment of any particular style of music. We merely have specific interest in the biz.
Again, this may cover a wide range of music. Let us first say that we are not looking for popular R&B, rap or dance-style music (male or female). We are looking for the more ‘edgier’ pop the likes of Michelle Branch, Avril Lavigne, Kelly Clarkson, Sheryl Crow, Katy Perry, P!nk, etc.
Male Mainstream Alternative
Mostly we’re looking for ‘edgier’ male alternative with a good hook and popular category potential. Mainly, anything that would be a male radio hit the likes of Daughtry, Nickelback, Jason Mraz, Kings of Leon, etc
Female Country (Pop)
As for the Country category, we are looking for mainstream pop-type hits which would be more or less considered “crossover” and could run on multiple charts. This would include the likes of Martina McBride, Gretchen Wilson, The Wreckers, Carrie Underwood, Shania Twain, Taylor Swift, etc. Again, we’re looking for that infectious ‘hook’ that is clearly a radio hit.
We are not currently looking for any Traditional Country, Bluegrass, Folk (except where it crosses over), etc.
Does It Have a Good Hook?
Our overall guiding principle here is the almighty, ever-powerful hook! It’s that certain something that draws the listener in, makes him want to sing along and keeps the song playing in his head. Mostly, it’s what drives him to purchase the song in the first place. So, while working with our style guidelines, we never can resist a good hook. Therefore, we will occasionally stray outside the lines of our Genre & Style Submission policies. Just know that the hook has to be strong.
